And still eulogised by the Shinners as a hero.

I came into your blog through having a similar post on Russell at http://www.gombeennation.blogspot.com You might take a look as its from the perspective of a Dubliner with no time for such nonsense.

In fact, I take exception to having a memorial to a Nazi collaborator in my home city - but I'm not surprised given the hypocrisy of that particular constituency, for whom a residual hatred of "The Brits" seems to be the only motivation.

One point of criticism, if I may? I get lots of comments I disagree with on my blog, but I think you're doing yourself a bit of a disservice by deleting the offending posters comments while still having follow-up comments?

Not having a pop, but just saying that to someone new to your blog it doesn't read too well.

Other than that, you're spot on with regard to Herr Russell and his supporters.

Cheers. The Gombeen Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05024662128072120489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2623721153002721356.post-16425087807012496662009-07-05T19:27:37.237+01:002009-07-05T19:27:37.237+01:00Anon - the site has no policy pertaining to commen...Anon - the site has no policy pertaining to comments. Unapologetically I control the space and I take or leave them as I see fit. Wardog chose deliberately to misinterpret a point about English cities, which during the war suffered bombing by both the IRA and the German airforce (not exactly contemporaneously as SU indicates but during the period during which Britain positioned itself against the Nazi threat in Europe), and persisted in his misinterpretation despite the very obvious point that it was only English cities which were involved in that IRA bombing campaign. I have no interest in his attempt to railroad the thread into some poor Celtic nations sacrifice forgotten MOPEry because a) it is completelt irrelevant and b) I openly, heartily and unashamedly despise such sentiment.

I did make the jump from disdain to abuse in a comment in this thread which I shouldn't have done, but it was caused by frustration at someone deliberately and disingenuously refusing to accept that there is a difference between pointing out that English cities were targeted by the IRA and Luftwaffe at this time (in order to emphasise the type of character which has been memorialised in this instance) and inferring that only English cities were bombed by the Germans during World War 2! Because that was the crux of Wardog's argument and one which, for his part, he also put very aggressively.Owen Polleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00567787385096905811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2623721153002721356.post-35437468420645895042009-07-05T18:53:48.980+01:002009-07-05T18:53:48.980+01:00Inetersting blog, chekov. During WW2 Sean Russell's Nazi collaborating IRA targeted a bombing campaign in ENGLAND. The Luftwaffe targeted cities across Britain but the place where both bombing campaigns took place was in ENGLAND. That some posturing separatist ballbag cannot understand the relevance of making that point does not interest me, but his comments will be removed from this blog as soon as I see them.Owen Polleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00567787385096905811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2623721153002721356.post-4878680163181619892009-07-05T15:29:30.495+01:002009-07-05T15:29:30.495+01:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2623721153002721356.post-63164627103630530052009-07-05T15:15:10.693+01:002009-07-05T15:15:10.693+01:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2623721153002721356.post-21020636976810082372009-07-05T14:45:10.830+01:002009-07-05T14:45:10.830+01:00Shirty?
